About Jonathan

As published in the Clintonville Spotlight, "Jonathan Yardley, also known as “Bourbon Barrel Johnny,” has turned his love for customizing bourbon barrels into a small business based out of his garage. Four years ago, he attended the Kentucky Derby and decided to have a bourbon instead of his typical craft beer choice.

Upon enjoying the beverage for which Kentucky is known, he took a tour of the Woodford Reserve distillery and became fascinated with all things bourbon. What started out as a side hobby quickly turned into a small business for Yardley as word of mouth spread about his classic creations.

Per order, Yardley buys barrels from various bourbon distilleries and molds them into what his client envisions. The process of customizing these barrels is unique and delicate. Yardley will order the specific brand of barrel the customer wants, and the distillery stamps it with their brand. The barrels can be so fresh that the aroma of bourbon remains.

From there, he breaks the barrel down by hand, keeping the stamp untouched, and warps the barrel into what he needs. He then engraves the customized text into the wood using a laser and polyurethanes them to finish."
